Chapter 835 - Don’t You Think So?
Chapter 835: Don’t You Think So?
You Nainai looked at the two ladies who were at the sink and touching up their makeup. She wanted to ask them if they had brought sanitary pads with them. She wouldn’t mind buying one from them!
One of them was putting on lipstick… gossiping about the lady who was at the same table as them earlier drinking with a man. The other was gently patting powder onto her young and beautiful face, saying, “A b*tch that acts like a brother with guys.” The two of them then broke out laughing.
You Nainai dismissed the idea of borrowing a sanitary pad from them.
After a moment of silence, You Nainai said, “I’ll get a waitress to go out and buy some!”
You Nainai walked to the restroom’s door, not willing to go too far away. She saw a waitress and handed her a hundred dollar bill, asking for her help in buying a thing of sanitary pads.
They were both ladies, and they had probably both encountered such an awkward situation where their period had suddenly come when they hadn’t brought sanitary pads with them. The waitress guessed that You Nainai might have dirtied her pants and couldn’t buy them herself, so she readily agreed…
Very soon, the waitress brought back a black plastic bag with the sanitary pads and the change. You Nainai took the sanitary pads but didn’t take back the change.
You Nainai stood outside, waiting for Lin Nuan to come out. She felt very anxious and kept on strolling to and fro in front of the sink.
Hearing the sound of the toilet flushing, You Nainai stood firmly and looked in Lin Nuan’s direction.
She saw Lin Nuan coming out calmly, placing her phone on the sink and washing her slender and pale fingers under the running water. The warm light cast down a gentle glow onto her.
Lin Nuan raised her head and saw that the corners of her lips had some sesame sauce from earlier, causing her to frown.
“You aren’t anxious at all. What if it’s…” You Nainai furrowed her brows tightly, her gaze looking toward Lin Nuan’s reflection, whose gaze was lowered. She couldn’t get herself to say the words that it could be a sign of miscarriage.
Lin Nuan straightened her body, drew two pieces of tissue paper to wipe the corners of her lips, and then folded in the side with the sesame sauce and wiped her hands. She said, “I’m in my twenties. I can tell if I’m on my period of not!”
“I think… we should still go to the hospital for a checkup!” After some thought, You Nainai said, “We’ll feel more at ease after a checkup. If you don’t want Sir Fu to find out, I’ll go with you. Let’s not delay this… Just in case!”
You Nainai’s words unsettled Lin Nuan. Her action of drying her hands paused…
A toilet stall door was pushed open, and a pregnant lady with a big stomach walked out. Lin Nuan threw a glance and tossed the tissue into the trash, giving way for the pregnant lady to use the sink.
You Nainai had given birth before and was more experienced than she was.
Lin Nuan’s emotions felt a little messed up. She nodded, also afraid that something might happen. “Huai’an still has to go to the farm in the afternoon. We’ll do a checkup at Jinjiang’s hospital!”
After returning to the room, Lin Nuan lied to Fu Huai’an, saying that she wanted to go with You Nainai to the famous shop in Jinjiang that sold almond tofu. Therefore, she wouldn’t be going with him to the farm.
“I’ll be waiting for you in the city. After you’re done with your work, we’ll head back to Haicheng together!”
Fu Huai’an didn’t force her. “Let Little Lu go with you as well…”
“There’s no need for that! I’ll just be having fun. Little Lu is your trusty helper, and you’ll be busy with work. How can I take him away?” Lin Nuan grabbed Fu Huai’an’s big hand under the table.
Lin Nuan and Fu Huai’an went their separate ways at the restaurant’s entrance. You Nainai used the GPS to search for a private hospital in Jinjiang and then drove over.
Lin Nuan did a blood test. When she was getting an ultrasound, she had chugged down a few bottles of water. The doctor patiently and gently told her that she still needed to drink more. It was because Lin Nuan was too skinny, so it’d be hard to determine anything unless her bladder was swelled up.
After a lengthy effort, the doctor could finally see her uterus. Lin Nuan felt that, at least for the day, she wouldn’t feel like drinking water anymore.
In the doctor’s office, the doctor was checking the data from Lin Nuan’s examination…
Lin Nuan’s fingers tightly clutched the handbag on her knees. She completely forgot about all the agony she had been through earlier during the ultrasound scan.
The results of the checkup were out and in the doctor’s hands. However, Lin Nuan felt increasingly uneasy as she waited for the doctor to make the announcement.
The doctor asked, “You said that your period came today?”
Lin Nuan nodded, feeling so nervous that she was breaking out in sweat.
The doctor nodded. “Yours should be a case of biochemical pregnancy.”
Biochemical pregnancy?
It was the first time that Lin Nuan had heard the term. Her expression was that of perplexity and fear. She instinctively felt fear toward something that she didn’t know about. That was especially so since Lin Nuan wanted a child, and the term had the word “pregnancy” in it, with another word, “biochemical,” in front.
The doctor explained, “Biochemical pregnancy means that the sperm and egg fused together but didn’t return to the uterus for implantation. This is also why your human chorionic gonadotropin level has increased… Human chorionic gonadotropin is secreted when the sperm and egg fuse!”
When Lin Nuan heard the doctor’s explanation, her heart thumped. “Is this… a miscarriage?”
“Strictly speaking, it isn’t considered a miscarriage. Don’t be nervous! Generally, a biochemical pregnancy won’t have a big impact. After your period, everything can return to normal. It won’t affect your future chances of getting pregnant. Moreover, usually, after a biochemical pregnancy takes place, the chance of you getting pregnant next time tends to be higher!”
The chance of getting pregnant next time would be higher? Lin Nuan’s heart skipped a beat…
“Then… is the reason for my biochemical pregnancy that I was given an injection of tetanus and anesthetic?”
The doctor thought about it for a while before answering Lin Nuan’s question. “There are many things that can give rise to a biochemical pregnancy. I don’t think there’s any relation to what you mentioned… If the fertilized egg didn’t get implanted into the uterus, then there’s no direct connection with your tetanus and anesthetic injections… There wouldn’t be any absorption, and thus there wouldn’t be any influence! Possible reasons why the implantation didn’t take place could be due to luteal dysfunction, insufficient progesterone production, or endometriosis. All of these could affect the fertilized egg’s implantation. It could also be because you are mentally tense, too concerned about wanting a child. It could also be because the fertilized egg itself was flawed!”
At the mention of the fertilized egg being flawed, the doctor typing the medical record on the computer turned and asked Lin Nuan, “Did you and your husband do a pre-pregnancy checkup before?”
Neither Lin Nuan nor Fu Huai’an had done a pre-pregnancy test or premarital checkup before.
After all, both of them were healthy, and they felt that they shouldn’t have any problems in this area…
“I suggest that the two of you do a pre-pregnancy checkup before attempting to have a child. This is also being responsible to your future children, don’t you think?”
Lin Nuan wasn’t a person who couldn’t take advice from others. She felt that what the doctor said made sense, but she was afraid that it would bring Fu Huai’an mental pressure.
She was already facing tremendous mental pressure in wanting a child! She didn’t want it to become a mental pressure for both of them.
After stepping out of the hospital’s elevator, Lin Nuan and You Nainai headed out. Lin Nuan felt that it was a pity, while also feeling thankful that the child hadn’t come… Otherwise, she’d definitely feel unsettled because she had received the anesthetic and tetanus shots.
